Have you always wanted to create a website for your business but don’t know how? Or did you think it was too difficult to do? Web design can be tricky, but with this simple step-by-step tutorial, you can learn the fast and simple way to create a website without worrying about the complicated stuff.

5 Steps On How Design Your Website

Step 1: Choose A Website Builder

There are hundreds of different website builders available online for free, including the likes of WordPress, Square Space, and Wix. As a starting point, you have to choose one to help you create the backbone of your website.

But which one to choose?

Each website builder has its assets and negatives. But in terms of which is most consistent, it is hard to overlook WordPress. In fact, according to BuildWith, 51.7% of all websites across the entire Internet are made with WordPress, highlighting its popularity.

The reasons for its acclaim are because it is simple to use, has an excellent user interface, has plenty of useful plugins. It is flexible enough to suit everyone – small business websites, online shops, and large companies.

So while you might be interested in working with other website builders, it is best to start with WordPress, as this blog will focus on its uses.

Step 2: Start with Web Hosting and your Domain Name

Next, you have to set up your web hosting (a service that connects your site to the Internet) and your domain name (a web address like YourBusinessName.com). Without either, you will not be able to establish yourself online.

Without a web hosting platform, your website won’t be visible on the Internet, and you will not be able to store anything valuable to your site.

Without a domain name, your website will lack professionalism. Instead of having “yourbusiness.my-free-website.com”, you will have a proper website like “yourbusiness.com”.

Be warned; some domain names are already taken, so you might have to be flexible and choose what is available to you. Sites like Go

Daddy or Webdesignmade.com offer both domain name options and web hosting services, so you can start your search there.

In a nutshell – without web hosting and a domain name, your website will NOT exist.

Step 3: Designing Your Website

Now we get to the exciting and creative part: designing the template of your site.

With WordPress, you will have thousands of professionally designed themes that you choose from to design your site. Better yet is that most themes are highly

customizable, so you can create something that genuinely reflects your business. Just research which theme is best for your website and your business, and get creative with it.

However, it is good to know some basics:

  • Adding and Editing Pages

Pages are the backbone of your site, as they are used to display your services  and informative pages. You can add and remove as many pages as you would like, as well as include them in Menus on the site. You can edit both the backend of the page (like the URL, the Meta and the Title), as well as the front end (everything that the customer sees on the page). Once you have done it, you merely have to “Update” it. You can also add images to the pages and customize them, depending on your chosen theme.

  • Adding Posts

Posts, known online as Blog posts, are very different from Pages. Much like Pages, you can add them as you please and remove them. But Posts work on different levels compared to Pages in terms of their effect on your site, especially in relation to marketing.

  • Set up a static homepage

You have to set up a homepage for your website. To do that, you have to make the page “static”, so it doesn’t change (unless you make live changes). To do it, merely go to “Settings – Reading” and select a page that you have created as your homepage. Once you have done that, the selected page will read “Front Page”.

As with all website design, it all comes down to what you want for your site. How you design it, and you configure it will impact your user interaction and how it works with customers.

Step 4: Installing The Necessary Plugins

As we mentioned above, plugins are a useful addition to WordPress sites. They are extensions that are built to expand WordPress’ capabilities, such as adding features and functions to your website that don’t come as built-in. It can include everything from “Yoast SEO” to Contact forms that make it easy for customers to contact you.

All you have to do is find the plugin that is going to help your business in the long-term.

Installing a plugin is easy too.

All you have to go is to “Plugins -> Add New” and simply start searching. Once you found the one you want, click “Install”. Before you know it, your website has a valuable feature.

Step 5: Congratulations. Your Website Is Ready To Launch!

If you have followed the steps above, your website is now ready to launch. However, for some people, what WordPress offers doesn’t work as well as it should.

The design might not be to their liking, or they might desire an expert hand. In some cases, the Plugins are not working as they should.
